The Gaza Genocide and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC)
Last updated 4 April 2025
Scott Ritter is a renowned geo-political analyst with many years’ experience. In 2003 it was he who, as a UN Weapons Inspector, testified that Saddam Hussein’s Iraq did NOT have WMDs. On 10th October 2024 he did a 2-hour interview with Danny Haiphong on Rumble.
At 36 mins Ritter mentions that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was announced by Joe Biden in September 2023. I wrote about this on X in December 2023 and I’m going to post the same content here.
IMEC is a planned economic corridor from India to Europe through the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel and Greece. It was indeed on 10th September 2023 at the G20 summit in New Delhi that IMEC was launched and was heralded in the Indian Express as “a multimodal transport and energy corridor between India and Europe via the Middle East. Challenging Chinese Belt and Road clout in the region, the transport and energy corridor builds on strategic and economic synergies, marks a breakthrough in post-Partition India's quest for connectivity with the world to the north-west.”
Just 12 days later, on 22nd September 2023, Benjamin Netanyahu brandished a map of Israel at the UN General Assembly, a map which included the West Bank and Gaza as part of Israel. Netanyahu spoke at length about IMEC:
"Two weeks ago at the G20 conference, President Biden, Prime Minister Modi, and European and Arab leaders announced plans for a visionary corridor that will stretch across the Arabian Peninsula and Israel. It will connect India to Europe with maritime links, rail links, energy pipelines, fiber optic cables. This corridor will bypass maritime checkpoints and dramatically lower the cost of goods, communication and energy for over 2 billion people.
What a historic change for my country. You see, the land of Israel is situated in the crossroad between Africa, Asia and Europe…. We will not only bring down barriers between Israel and our neighbors, we will build a new corridor of peace and prosperity [sic] that connects Asia, through the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel, to Europe. This is an extraordinary change, a monumental change. Another pivot of history."
This speech by Netanyahu’s at the UN was just 15 days before the start of Israel’s genocidal destruction on Gaza, 7th October 2023. A coincidence?
Update on 4 April 2025
Pepe Escobar has introduced the concept of "Pipelineistan" which
“refers to the network of oil and gas pipelines in crucial geopolitical regions, especially Central Asia. He suggests that Western actions in these areas are largely driven by a desire to reduce dependence on Russian energy and OPEC.”
In 2009 Escobar wrote
“The New Great Game of the twenty-first century is always over energy and it’s taking place on an immense chessboard called Eurasia. Its squares are defined by the networks of pipelines being laid across the oil heartlands of the planet. Call it Pipelineistan. If, in Asia, the stakes in this game are already impossibly high, the same applies to the ‘Euro’ part of the great Eurasian landmass–the richest industrial area on the planet.”
Scott Ritter again mentions IMEC (at 9 mins) in another interview with Danny Haiphong.
